Before we get to the process, let us explain a little. You’re probably binge-watching movies and tv shows more than usual right now, correct? We are too! Because of that, more digital content is being consumed than ever before, which means film and television producers are looking for more places to create that content, and they’re looking to Oklahoma. In fact, it’s at the top of their list thanks to our cost of living, friendly crew, hospitality, diverse landscapes, safe COVID-19 protocols and budget incentives.

We know how beautiful the Cherokee Nation is, and we’ve been working hard to showcase our reservation land and all that’s in it to producers, directors and location scouts around the country in the CNFO Locations Gallery. You should check it out if you haven’t already!

What is the CNFO Locations Gallery?
The CNFO locations photo gallery is a directory that currently features more than 1,700 Cherokee Nation destinations that could be perfect for filming and contains everything from:

  • Homes
  • Businesses
  • Downtowns
  • Farms and Ranches
  • Parks
  • Restaurants
  • And more

We’re working hard to grow the gallery with hundreds more locations every month. And yours!

What purpose does the gallery serve?
When film productions are planning their projects, they must decide where they’ll film. Once they’ve determined the look and feel they need, they reach out to local film offices (like us!) to browse their gallery and find locations for their project.

What types of properties are film productions looking for?

Anything and everything! If you’re the owner of a business, an apartment complex, a house, land, a motel or any location a story could happen, you can submit it for consideration. Having a wide range of film locations is essential. Film productions use multiple locations, even in a small project. Large projects (think feature films and television shows) need dozens of location possibilities.

With the film industry growing rapidly in Oklahoma, YOU could be part of the movement by submitting your property to our locations directory. 

You may be asking yourself, why should I list my property?

Adding your property to the online gallery increases Cherokee Nation communities’ chances of being chosen for film and TV projects. When producers see the variety of locations offered and are willing to be part of projects, it helps make their decision where to go much easier. When productions come to our communities, it means jobs and dollars for our local economies. Film is big business. For FY20-FY21, the spend in the state of Oklahoma is projected to be more than $153 million. “Reservation Dogs,” an Indigenous-focused series picked up by FX, recently generated $3.2 MILLION in direct in-state spending and hired more than 100 local crew members in shooting just their first episode. We would love to see this kind of financial impact in Cherokee Nation communities.

How do I submit my property to the CNFO locations directory?

That’s easy! Just visit our website to submit your location: https://cherokeefilmcommission.com/submitlocation/

Here’s what you’ll need to do:

  • Name your location.
  • Provide the address or coordinates.
  • Provide a photo of your property. Even better, several photos from all angles (interior and exterior photos are preferable) will really showcase your property.
  • Provide a contact number for our records. We’ll keep that info private.
  • Not sure if your property is within our boundaries? We have an interactive map on Google maps if you need to check!

The submission form is quick and easy. It looks like this:

We also have your privacy and best interest in mind. A few items to note:

  • This is a free service we offer.
  • We do not PUBLICLY share any information related to private property ownership, including contact name, number, email or address.
  • While we encourage locations represented in the directory to be “film friendly,” being listed does NOT guarantee filming as we realize each request must be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
  • If a production is interested, our office will then get information from productions asking about your property. If the request is valid, we will then reach out to the contact for your property to see if you’re interested. Only with permission will we then connect you with the producer.
  • All property must be within the Cherokee Nation.
