We’re still over here laughing at so many of the funny and creative films submitted to the OklaHomies Short Film Contest! The contest truly showcased local talent in the Oklahoma film industry and shed a lot of light on how anyone can make a movie. In case you missed it, you can still watch ALL of the winners and short films on the OklaHomies Film Gallery.
We were curious to learn more about the directors behind the smartphones and where their inspiration came from. We did a quick social-distance Q&A with Team Purget from Hulbert, Oklahoma, the first place and fan-favorite winners in the short shorts category. Team Purget includes Cole, Rachel and Max Purget (Cherokee Nation). Spoiler alert: This film, which clocks around 60 seconds, includes a lot of handwashing. You can watch it here: “This Suds For You”.
CNFO: Where did your inspiration come from for your short film?
Team Purget: The idea for “This Suds for You” sprouted from when we were talking about how often we wash our hands now. It seems like we do it after every little thing. So we took that to the extreme and it was so fun.
What did you use to shoot and edit your film?
Everything was shot on an iPhone XS and edited with the app SPLICE from GroPro.
Do you currently work in the film industry, and if so, what’s your role?
Cole is a teacher at Hulbert Elementary. However, Max has been in the industry for over five years as an actor. His most recent movie that will be out this fall is called “THE SNEAK OVER.”
*Recently, Cherokee Nation Film Office dove deep with Rachel and Max Purget, manager and actor, on how they got their start in the film industry, which you could do, too! Read more about the advice they gave HERE.
Anything else you would like to add?
Full-body washing at the kitchen sink is not recommended by health professionals. Cole is a trained professional. Do not attempt this at home.
The OklaHomies Short Film Contest is sponsored by the Oklahoma Film + Music Office and the Tulsa Office of Film, Music, Arts & Culture.
